Back from Veternica

The weather turned to be unexpectedly nice - warm and sunny.

What we found out today -

the way to get to Veternica is extremely simple,

the path which leads up from Stenjevec is a baby-path,

a walk similar to the one to school, but longer, though.

The cave opens for visitors at eleven and a ticket has to be purchased, but it is worth every kuna because somehow you don't expect to

see tunnels under the earth full of history made up of the present day bat sleeping premises to the housing of the Neanderthals, discovered not that long ago - around 1934 and 1951.

Approximately 480 meters of mine-like tunnels are visitor-friendly, all together there are 7,000 meters to be closely explored and adapted for public admiration.

So far, the nature has done its best to form the cave and its passages - since the sea water withdrew from the area and left space to waters which formed amazing sculptures on their way tr

Veternica was protected as a geomorphological nature monument in 1979.
