NIKOLA TESLA

Nikola Tesla was born in the Croatian town Smiljan on July 10th 1856. His father was Milutin Tesla, an orthodox priest and his mother was Đuka Mandić, an inventive homemaker who, in her spare time, created household appliances. Nikola Tesla had an eidetic memory with a knack for electrical inventions. He had always credited his mother's genetic influence for his creative abilities.

In 1870, he enrolled the Realgymnasium in Karlovc and graduated four year course within three years in 1873. He studied electrical engineering at the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz (1875.) and later attended the Charles-Ferdinand University in Prague. Unfortunately his father died early, and he had to leave the univeristy after completing only one term. Tesla accepted a job under Tivadar Puskas in a Budapest telegraph company in 1880. He was promoted to a chief electrician and later to an engineer for the company. He also moved to Paris to work for the Continental Edison Company as an engineer.

Tesla enjoyed his work so much, that once he even worked for 84 hours without sleeping. He spoke 8 foreign languages and left the world with more than 300 patents. He admitted he had never cared about money, the laws of physics were his religion instead. The great inventor believed in doing our best in order to create a better future.
